I stopped short of hitting a crossing bike on the crosswalk because I didn't know it was a school zone. There were no flashing lights, which is a visual queue for school zones.

Thank you for your comment. We have investigated this concern and found that the roadway has SCHOOL stencils painted within the travel lanes and there are flashing school zone signs in both directions indicating the 20mph limit during school times when flashing. Additionally, the crosswalk has flashing beacons and a flush crossing island to narrow the travel lanes and help identify the location as a formal intersection.

The problem is that flashing lights on the "School Zone 20 MPH" sign do NOT work/flash during school hours. What triggers them?
